Today we had the pleasure to spend a few hours geocaching with kai_gotti. We also appreciated the work of master of disguises – glyn(the only one) (otherwise known as G-2).
We met up with kai_gotti at Takapuna and decided to finish in Devonport. Our first cache was GC287CH Looking for George in Auckland. It didn’t take too long for kai_gotti to get this one, a nice way to start the day!
Kev sat out the next one and kai_gotti and I walked to GC287CM By George, its a cache! This one had us going for awhile! We were just about to give up but kai_gotti did it again and found it! That was close as we were just about to give up!
Finally I found the next cache GC1JZK4 Riddle of the Rumply Roots Saga (Auckland). This one didn’t take too long as we were starting to get in the mindset of master glyn.
I was on a roll and got the next one too GC1GE1P Just Stickin’ Around (Auckland). This one took us bit too long to find, one of those ones when you go “that’s easy” after you finally find it!
GC1M1EE the cache by the road by the lake (Auckland) co-ordinates for the next one put us in the middle of a busy road, so we just had to search along the path which was covered with shrubs. After a few good minutes, kai_gotti came up with the goods!
Next one was mine, a easy find at a lovely tree, GC1XAFW The high view (Devonport).
Time for a coffee stop, and being in Devonport, we had plenty of places to choose from. After we warmed up with our hot drinks and had a good chit-chat, we walked up the road to the cache GC1JAV9 Victoria View (Auckland). Another find for kai_gotto.
In the walking mood, we walked all the way down to GC1PYGC Its the Cache of the Spewing Fish!! (Auckland). Let me just say, it wasn’t just the fish that was spewing! We searched every nook and cranny and I finally had a eureka moment – I found something but just couldn’t get it out. Kai_gotti got in with his knife and after a few good minutes pulled it out – what a sneaky hide! But we were greeted with half a candle! With disappointment faces we searched again. We were defeated when Kev gave glyn a text for a bit of help (thanks Kev, knew you would be useful for something!). With the aid of the new clue, I found it in no time. And lucky it was me, as kai_gotti commented “I thought you had look there?”
That was meant to be our last cache, but one was in walking distant, so we went for one more! GC211CF Who Gives a Fig 2 ?. What a enormous and beautiful fig tree! After expanding the search area as previous logs mentioned the co-ordinates being a bit out, kai_gotti found the final find of the day. This was quite a clever cache, very much out in the open if you know what you’re looking at.
Noting there was just one more nearby, kai_gotti and I decided to go for it GC1M1GD Under the Wharf (Auckland). As we approached we noticed the tide was in, and neither of us wanted to get wet feet, so decided to come back another day. We joined back up with Kev and as we were crossing the road, Kev’s knee gave up and he hobbled in pain to the lamp post. Thank goodness kai_gotti was there so he could go retrieve our car as Kev was not in a state to walk (I’m not a driver). Not the best way to end the day but what a fabulous time we had – thanks kai_gotti, looking forward to the next time we go out geocaching! And the best thing of all, no DNF’s!
