Caching in Australia my observations

The average cache here is much easier to find then back in Auckland. We see comments like
“did not know caches could be that small” and
“looked everywhere” and
“found on 2nd visit”

Yes these are nano caches LOL

Then there is the fake rock (badly made one) this has a rating in 3 mmm now that’s over the top

Also a lot of the caches are in a mound so they stick out a mile

The only thing that slows us down is ensuring there are no spiders or snakes hiding in or near the cache. Or a wild turkey trying to eat you alive while caching.

GC115AC

GC115AC Look in Ernest was our final cache for the day. This was a nano cache and had amazed and stumped the geocachers here and had a difficult rating of three. As Kev and I approached the tree we noted some fishing wire stuffed into a knot of the branch. I pulled out the wire and at the bottom was a hanging nano. I said to Kev if this was at home, they would have painted the wire the colour of the tree lol. Another great day geocaching with 100% find rate!

GC2C8RA

This cache GC2C8RA The Cockleshell was another one with no convenient close parking. Kev parked around the corner and I walked off. The location was found in no time but the massive web and black and yellow spider was very off putting! I was saying to myself how typical not having the camera. Back home I used the iPhone which has a camera app, but the iPad doesn’t. Remembering the log said to watch out for the huge spider on the opposite tree I narrowed down my search and by brushing away the debris I had the cache. They do love placing their caches at the base or stumps of trees. I walked back to the car where Kev took my pic.

GC101XJ

The second cache of the day was GC101XJ Woods Bay. This was just down from the popular Hastings Road. I read the recent logs and noted some people had difficulties. As I walked to it Kev took some more photos of the bush turkeys. I approached the rocky river mouth and without trying I saw the cache. I guess if some of the stones were rearranged it might have been more difficult, anyway another find for us!

Noosa Holiday – Monday 30th August 2010 GCRKN4

Today we had decided to do caches around our area. Our first cache GCRKN4 Laguna Lookout was just up the road from us at Noosa Parks. Arriving at the lookout we noted the cache was of course in the bush land. Kev came with me and he suggested I stomp my feet up and down to scare off the snakes! The gps was going crazy so getting into the geocaching zone I started to look for the obvious spots. Kev heard a rustling noise and he saw a turkey looking bird scratching around. I think the locals call them bush turkeys. Kev stopped to takes pics and i carried on. I must admit i’m not too happy going through the bushes and as the photo shows, just being snagged by a branch can freak me out! It wasn’t long before I came across a neatly pile of rocks which had the ammo case cache underneath. I was greedy and took two travel bugs, TB-OR-NOT-TB? and Cyclomon. I left our travel bug Going to Tieland. As I went to rejoin Kev who was at the lookout taking pics, I questioned my judgement of always wearing jandels when geocaching!

GC16XBN

The final cache GC16XBN The Chest took us to another bush walkway. Our gps didn’t like the area so I got into my geocaching thinking zone and locked into the likely spot – success! I took the travel bug Nan’s Flutterby and left Finger-Rosenkranz. Time now to return to the resort and enjoy a early afternoon swim!

GC123AD

Another easy drive by GC123AD Tsunami Spotting took us up to a high spot. The cache was quickly in our hands and we took a few minutes to enjoy the views of the coast from such a high spot.

GC17G5C

Another quick drive-by GC17G5C Coolum Beach I, was another simple hide behind the sign. The tricky thing here again was parking, so Kev stayed on the side of the road and I quickly went in. It’s these situations when you realise the benefits of geocaching with someone. With a quick sign of the log it was time to get back in the car.

GC16Z71

This cache GC16Z71 Perry’s Whale Watch, was a spectacular lookout. We were lucky enough to get parking and Kev started to take the pics from the lookout while I went searching. Some people had struggled with this cache so I was hoping it will be challenging. The clue was a bit critic to me but it didn’t matter, the cache was in my hand in no time. I went to join Kev and enjoy the awesome views.

GC19GD5

Heading back in we had some quick drive-bys on the way. This one GC19GD5 Coolum Beach II was a easy find, right behind a big sign, only unnerving thing was you were next to a busy road so you felt a bit embarrass trying to sneakily get the cache. We had to park just slightly up the road so Kev stayed back and I went in. Found in no time so triumphantly went back to the car.
