Friday 31st December 2010–Month Challenge

We have done it!!!  After I finished work today, Kev and I went to Massey University to get the cache GC2BDBX Halls of Academe (Auckland, North Shore).  It was a nice easy magnetic cache, the perfect way to finish our monthly challenge!

GC2BDBX

It was a struggle and a couple of times we did want to give up, but we cached on and made it.  Kev’s already found a new challenge – to make sure we get a cache for every day of the year!  One good thing is December is already covered!  We don’t need to get a cache until January 3rd but we need to get 23 days just for January!

Oh on Sunday 7amish we are off to Taupo and planning on getting at least 20 caches to get us closer to the 500th cache.  On Monday we go to Palmerstone North to relax and cache for a few days, including finding our 500th!

Happy New Years everyone!

Thursday 30th December 2010–Month Challenge

We are almost done!!!  I had another day at work so Kev did our daily caching again.  He was over in the city for a meeting and afterwards went to the waterfront.  He tried to find GC10D09 Tanks for the Memories (Auckland) which has previously been DNF by a few caches.  He added his DNF and noted that the area is now a dumping ground – the cache has now been archived.

He next went to GC13P6T The Auld Mug (Auckland).  He arrived at GZ and applied his “invisibility cloak” due to workmen nearby.  He retrieved the cache and signed the log without being spotted.

At GC217T2 The Bridge (Auckland) he arrived to see a group of tourist starting to climb the bridge.  He waited until they were halfway up and proceeded to search.  However due to his arms being too big to fit though the railings, he had to put a DNF but we will return another day with my skinnier arms.  Later this evening when we all went out with coffee with Kai_gotti, he mentioned he had the same problem – so I guess we will have to fit it in on one of our geocaching runs.

Wednesday 29th December 2010 – Month Challenge

Well its back to work day for poor Cath so I dropped her off and headed for GC211FP Browns Bay Bus Stop which had 2 DNF’s from us in the past but had recently had new finds. I was not going to leave this cache unfound. Thankfully it was a quick find but hurt my back and knee in the process.

Well as you may tell I was a happy bunny for doing this find while other “better cachers” then me failed (someone else in the team)! So I took myself off for a nice breakfast to start the day after my celebratory smoke.

I thought why not try and get another two caches to make it to 100 finds for December.  So off I went and got GC1RCPG Castor Bay cache (Auckland). Just as I signed the log and walked back to the car, Mr Whippy turned up. WOW what a day, sun, sea, breakfast and now Mr Whippy.

After I finished my ice cream I did the next cache to bring the total to 100, GC28HFZ Mosaics hide a lot! (Auckland).

Could I stop there? NO I could not so off I went to GC29FGM Milford Mini Putt. Another nice and easy cache, just how I like them!

Not a bad day’s caching!

Tuesday 28th December 2010–Month Challenge

In between the rain we went off to Greenhithe to get out daily cache.  We tried for GC1PT27 Agent Orange (Auckland) but just couldn’t find it, nor could the last person who tried before us.  Just a little bit further down the road was GC1TMJM Forward Recon Post (Auckland).  This was nice and easy and I found it in no time.

I’m back off to work for the next three days and since Kev is still at home, hopefully he will do the caches without me!

Monday 27th December 2010–Month Challenge

The month is slowly coming to an end and about time! We decided to go for GC2E23X 50 Steps (Auckland).  Kev dropped me off as I walked up the stairs to try find the cache.  After walking quite a distance from the stairs I realised I must have made a mistake and walked all the way back.  After a search up and down along the path I twittered the owner for a tip.  She replied back and I redid my steps and searched again – still no luck.  Luckily for me, the owner who lives nearby came over and helped me – yay I found it with a little guiding hand!  Here I am back at the car testing out the reverse camera on my iPhone 4.

GC2E23X

Not feeling the best I went home to have a nap.  When I woked up Kev and Kev Snr had gone off geocaching with Kai_gotti (Kev didn’t want to wake me so he left me behind).  Kai is so close to 700 he wanted to get the few remaining caches he needed.  The first cache they went for was GC2H4N8 Where are the Faculties?? (Auckland).  They arrived at GZ and walk through the park to the bush where there is a very beautiful river.  There was lots of muggles about playing in the water and while Kev and Kai helped some muggles up the steep back, Kev Snr went to retrieve the cache.

They next went off to GCV4HM Green Lookout (Auckland).   They arrived and Kai pointed to the area saying it is about 20m’s that way.  As Kev was getting the GPS ready, Kai asked where Kev Snr was?  They waited five minutes and started to call him.  After ten minutes Kev Snr returned.  He thought he heard Kai said it was across the road 20 minutes away – and Kev Snr being eager, took off through the bush, without a GPS and started to look for a lookout.  Once the laughs died down, they walked the 20 metres (not minutes!) and easily found the cache.

GCV4HM

Off to Takapuna now for GC2K2QF THH6:Madogga of the Chair (Auckland).  Kev stayed in the car as Kev Snr and Kai went searching and apparently was a nice easy find for them.  Not too far away was the next cache, GC2K2QB THH4:Dogs at the Station(Auckland).  Kev Snr found this cache and Kai got to show off some of his company’s lifts.

GC2K2QB

At GCZE0R Patuone park (Auckland) Kai picked up the cache with ease before the Kev’s even got there.  The final cache of the day was GC2K2Q2 THH1:A Doggy Friend in Need (Auckland) which was another quick and easy find.

On the way back to our house, Kai stopped at GC2GF5K Hobsonville Charity (Auckland) which we put out.  He made the find and it was a big moment as it was also his 700th find – well done Kai!!!

Kais 700

As they approached our home, they found kiwigary finding another one of our caches, and he joined them to coming back for a cup of coffee.

Kev’s main aim of the day was to pick up travel bugs to take with us to Palmerstone North, and he managed to find a few of them.

Sunday 26th December 2010–Month Challenge

WE GOT IT!! Yesterday the owner confirmed GC22N97 Sport Waitakere (Auckland)  was still there.  I had an early start at the shops this morning (7am) so on the way back from one of the shops, we decided to try for this cache again.  Once again I was on my hands and knees, head peering up and down, and I just couldn’t find it.  This cache had hit the frustration mark – you know it is there but you just can’t see it.  I went around once more and started poking my hand everywhere, and thankfully, I came with the goods!  Now every time we pass the sign I can smile instead of growl!

GC22N97 found

Oh last night our cache GC2KKX2 Westgate Lake (Auckland) was published but our other cache was rejected – got to relocate it for the second time tomorrow.

CHRISTMAS DAY! Saturday 25th December 2010–Month Challenge

Merry Christmas everyone!

I was a very lucky girl today, Kev brought me an iPhone 4!  I’m still trying to get used to it and to twittering, but I’m slowly getting there.  To celebrate the day this evening we posted two caches, one dedicated to my iPhone and my iPhone travel bug.  Both caches yet to be published.

Xmas iPhone 2010

This morning the family had opened most of their presents.  I have four very happy nephews and Kevs Team will be recruiting the new family dog (yet to be name) for geocaching.  We suggested the name “Geo” but it was rejected lol.

Anyway, mid morning after the presents, Kev and I went off for our daily caches.  Because the roads were quiet we decided to go for GC1HQDQ Save Our SteamShip (Auckland).  A lovely quick easy find, perfect for today.

Knowing the carpark will be clear, we went for the DNF we got the other week GC22N97 Sport Waitakere (Auckland)   I got right down on the ground and had a really good look and I still couldn’t find it!  I’m hoping it has been muggled so once it’s replaced I’ll have better luck but until then, another DNF!  The question of the day – whose Kevs Team member butt is this lol?

GC22N97

Once again, Merry Christmas everyone and I hope you all had a wonderful day.

Friday 24th December, Christmas Eve 2010–Month Challenge

Being a busy day preparing for tomorrow and still finishing work at the normal time at 4pm (just me, Kev finished earlier), we scanned the nearby caches for something nice and easy and came up with a Greenhithe cache GC2GGVC The Secret Fort (Auckland).

We arrived at the well-to-do neighbourhood and started the search.  Not sure if it was because of all of the trees but my GPS wasn’t playing along.  After random searching up and down I decided to expand my search elsewhere where I hear a big “ahummm”.  I looked around to see Kev doing a dance, he found the cache!  He kept on going about how he found the cache, and I said, if it wasn’t a novelty you wouldn’t need to go on about it!  Lets just say, he’s a very happy chappy!

GC2GGVC

Not too many days left of the challenge – going to sneak out tomorrow mid morning and try the Waitakere Stadium cache we couldn’t get the other day, with no cars and people in the parking area, I can have a proper good look on my hands and knees.

Day Twenty-four of Month Challenge – tick!

Merry Christmas everyone, hope you all get to spend the day with all your favourite people!
