Another weekend and Kev and I needed to pop out to Takapuna.  On the drive out Kev suggested we grab a couple of caches.  We went for GC2EY6W Castor’s big concrete thing’a'ma’jig (Ackl).  We had plenty of time to look as no one could see us behind the big concrete thing’a’ma’jig.  With that and a few trees our GPS’s were playing up so we thoroughly searched all the nearby obvious spots and I came up with the cache.

The next and final cache of the day was GC2D16P Alex’s (Auckland).  This was a beautiful spot, just down the road is the beach and you have a great view of Mt Rangitoto.  This one took us a while to find and I was ready to give up but Kev really wanted to find it.  After a few more minutes Kev gave me the “yippee I’ve found it” call.  Another clever design that is out in the open and you wouldn’t think anything less of it unless you were geocaching.

One cache each for both of us, another quick and successful hunt during the cold and rainy months.

Today I was having a special treat – a beauty spa treatment.  Kev who had to wait for me, went out for a coffee and then went geocaching.  He found GC1XKJ8 Ruby’s Zoo Cache (Auckland, North Shore).  The find was quick but the retrieval was slow.  Kev who is still nursing an injured knee took quite a while to bend down to pick up the cache.  While halfway through he had gathered a crowd of muggles who had just exited the house – oh dear!  Hopefully they already knew about the cache existence.  Kev also retrieved the travel bug Lambville Racer.

By now I was beautiful (I mean MORE beautiful) and ready to go.  Kev wanted to do one more cache just down the road, GC1AN53 Taka Beach (Auckland).  The cache didn’t take us too long to find but the disguise was perfect – just something that blends into the environment and can so easily be overlooked.  It was such a beautiful day and a lovely way to spend the afternoon.

On the way home now to enjoy the rest of the weekend!

I had just finished work and Kev wanted to get the cache GC2VN5X Highway Hidey Hole (Auckland) which is just a short distance from my job.  We parked the car at the suggested waypoint and made the short walk to the cache location.  With the nearby schools already finished for the day it didn’t take me long to find it.  Another cache to inch us closer to the big 700 find mark!

Today Kev and I had a bit of shopping to do in Takapuna.  After a lunch at the cafe, we decided to do a cache on the way home.  We went for GC20JDP Who gives a fig 4 a cache?.  After finding a suitable place to park we went to the cache location.  Even being so close to the road, you can retrieve this cache without feeling out in the open.  A nice quick find.  We were lucky we had just eaten lunch as Kev was tempted by the new Double Down from KFC, as it seemed was everyone else as the drive-thru queue was out onto the main road!

One cache wasn’t enough for Kev so we took the short drive to GC1T2QB Polo @ the Quarry? (Auckland).  The area was empty so we had plenty of time to search for this cache, which is lucky as we needed it!  It took us a while but after a long search Kev spotted it for me to retrieve.  Unfortunately Kev jarred his knee so it was a painful success as you can tell by the look on his face!

We drove to the bottom of the driveway to rest and ice Kev’s knee while watching the local ducks swimming in the water.  After logging our find we realised there was just another cache a short walk away, GC1GFDV To Row or Paddle? (Auckland).  With more painkillers in Kev we walked to find the cache.  It was a beautiful day with only a few people canoeing on Lake Pupuke.  A local rower muggle was out and about so we had a talk to him before he joined the rest of his canoeing friends on the water.  With them all out of the way I went on the search.  Kev called to me say he’s found the likely spot for the cache when I lifted up the container – I had already found it!  Another clever hide and a wonderful view.  These caches are perfect to do in the cold months as the number of muggles are way down.

Time for home!
